January Newsletter 2017

Welcome back after the holiday and to our first newsletter of 2017 – may it be a good year for all.

Unfortunately, the New Year didn’t get off to the best start in our part of the world, with devastating wildfires ravaging the Western Cape for much of the month of January. Thousands of hectares of farmland and fynbos were destroyed, and the economic impact of the fires will be significant.

Through all this, we were struck by the courage and perseverance of firefighters, many of them volunteers, who faced great danger and braved hellish conditions for days at a stretch to control the blazes. And we were struck by the immediate and overwhelming community response to the disaster, with individuals and businesses helping out in any way they could.

Thank you to all the firefighters and everyone involved in the various firefighting efforts. Your selfless actions are an inspiration to all of us to persevere and prevail with grace and good humour, come what may in the year ahead.
