My passion for the culinary industry started in 2011, during my Grade 10 year, when I attended short courses at the Institute of Culinary Arts in Stellenbosch. During my final school year, I was accepted into the Culinary Traineeship Programme at NH The Lord Charles. I started my traineeship immediately after matriculating, in December 2013, and within a few months started in our fine-dining à la carte restaurant, La Vigna.
I am a perfectionist with a keen eye for detail. To me, cooking is an art and every finished plate should be a master piece. I attribute my success to the support of my family, our MD, Daniel Mendez, and Executive Chef Jean Pierre de la Motte, as well as my colleagues and friends, who always believed in me. My faith in God was also instrumental in my success. My next goal is to complete my traineeship and become a master pastry chef, and I would like to travel overseas to experience the international culinary scene.
In my leisure time I enjoy watching cooking shows, doing research on the Internet, or experimenting with new techniques in my kitchen at home. I love baking my famous lemon meringue pie with homemade lemon curd for family and friends!

The Sanlam Top Destination Awards honours the top accommodation establishments behind South Africa’s flourishing tourism industry – as voted by the public. NH The Lord Charles was named the winner in the 4-star hotel category from a line-up of 120 finalists from an overall 8000 establishments at a glittering gala event at The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay, earlier this month.
