Welcome note

It’s been a bumper awards season for NH The Lord Charles! After the F&B department’s big win in the Inter-hotel Challenge in August, Executive Chef JP de la Motte was named SA’s Best Senior Chef for 2017 earlier this month, beating some of the top chefs in the country to the honour. Also this month, NH The Lord Charles won a Sanlam Top Destination Award in the 4-star accommodation category. Well done and thank you to all our staff – your hard work, passion and dedication to excellence is what makes us all winners.

And thank you to everyone who voted for us online. You make us better! We appreciate your ongoing support and assure you that we will continue to offer a guest experience that is worthy of it.

Winning streak – NH The Lord Charles tops in the Sanlam Top Destinations!

NH The Lord Charles was voted Best 4-Star Establishment in the 2017 Sanlam Top Destinations Awards at a glittering ceremony in the Kelvin Grove Ballroom on 14 September 2017.

The win makes it two in a row for NH The Lord Charles, who won the award last year as well. Now in its third year, the Top Destinations Awards were designed by online accommodation platform Discount Traveler to honour the hospitality industry in South Africa by acknowledging top accommodation establishments as key industry players.

Executive Chef Jean-Pierre named Best Senior Chef 2017!

Executive Chef Jean-Pierre de la Motte beat the pick of South Africa’s top chefs for the coveted title of 2017 Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year!

The win cements NH The Lord Charles reputation for culinary excellence, after also winning big at the 2017 Inter-Hotel Challenge (Best Team, Best Wine Steward for Michelle Swart and runner-up Best Chef for Gizelle Els). First-time contestant Chef JP described his win as “totally unexpected”. He wowed the judges with a three-course menu featuring “consistently noteworthy dishes” in a very closely competed Senior Category. Great job!

The Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year is the oldest culinary competition in South Africa, with a 40-year heritage of providing the industry with a platform for the recognition of culinary talent. Read the full press release here.
